Several Oklahoma lawmakers are advocating for bills to reduce evictions, as the state lacks anti-retaliation laws protecting tenants. In 2024, approximately 48,070 eviction cases were filed, a slight decrease from 2023. Proposed legislation includes House Bill 2014, which would provide legal representation for low-income tenants, and House Bill 2015, aimed at preventing landlord retaliation. Additionally, Senate Bill 128 seeks to extend the eviction hearing notice period from five to ten days, allowing tenants more time to prepare.
